Keep an eye out for common nighthawks at dusk. These insectivores are fun to watch as they swoop and dart after mosquitoes, moths and other flying insects. flic.kr/p/nEFhQf

If people want to call sea stars starfish, just let them. It's fine.

If people want to call gulls seagulls, you can't let them get away with that. It's not fine.

It's a bee! It's a fly! It's a bee fly!

While bee flies are technically flies, they look and behave very much like bees. Even though there are at least 4,500 described species of bee flies, we still don't know much about most of them.

We've been seeing a bunch of butterflies lately! Some recent sightings include monarchs, tiger swallowtails, zebra swallowtails and more. Which butterflies have you been seeing?

To all the dads, we give a hoot about you.

Great-horned owls are one of th best wildlife dads. Males will help scout for a suitable nest, help incubate eggs, and feed both mom and up to four young chicks. Happy Father's Day!

Common loon chicks are able to swim shortly after hatching, but they’ll also catch a ride on mom or dad’s back. For the first few weeks, they’ll rely on their parents for food. Have you seen any loons lately?

While the American bullfrog is native to the Eastern U.S., it's invasive in the West. With few natural predators to keep populations in check, bullfrogs multiply quickly & outcompete native frogs.
