Best part of the day was watching our elders dance in to kick off our Tlingit & Haida 89th Tribal Assembly

Filled my heart to brim and then some! 🥰

We were officially sworn-in soon after

Excited to say Tlingit & Haida has created a Fentanyl Task Force that will include a representative from each of our 21 communities… including Washington State 🙂🫶🏼

(guess who wants the Washington State seat… hehe)

This escalation let to a Russian response.

The Tlingit Shaman, Stoonook, saw this was coming and urged the Tlingit to prepare defenses.

They were only successful in attacking the Fort as the Cannon-Armed Ship was absent.

In a classic misunderstanding between Europeans and Natives, the Russians built a fort on Sitka Island on land they 'purchased' from the Natives, 1799

The Tlingit did not think they were selling the land permanently. They Destroyed the Fort 1802.

Almost all the inhabitants

The Russians showed up two years later and offered terms

The Tlingit refused to stall & man/arm the new fort with gunpowder and Fighters

The fort was made of 1000 spruce logs, 14 buildings, and included a palisade wall

The Fort controlled the mouth of the River

The Russians

At an impasse, the Russians began shelling the fort until night fell.

Without Gunpowder reserves lost by a cannonball shot so accurately Babe Ruth would be surprised, the Tlingit had to stall and come up with a new strategy.

Continued Shelling could beat them down gradually,
