I guess I should be running for cover, but all I can think about is who writes these urgent emergency tornado warnings for San Diego? I mean, 'Take shelter in a basement?'

The marine layer is 4,000 feet deep this a.m., & low clouds extend from the coast to the slopes. Slow clearing expected inland, maybe no clearing at the coast. Friday & Saturday should be similar, but high pressure Sun. to Wed. should bring more blue skies.

San Diego has yet to hit 70° in May. Forecasts show it probably won't for the next 9 days. That last time the city went the entire month of May under 70? 103 years ago, in 1921. Mind you, 70 isn't exactly hot. It's 1° above the normal daily high.

Hardly a cloud over California this afternoon. Despite the clear skies, San Diego has only made it to 66° today. The weather service expects it to be a little warmer on Wednesday, then a cooling trend sets in Thursday through Saturday.

A giant swallowtail had to compete with the bees on my Pride of Madeira, which is having a super bloom year after all the spring rain. May is prime time for many species of butterflies in Southern California. Saw several other kinds in the yard today.
