Flow diversion and abstraction is a critical issue for the River Spey. Freshwater pearl mussels, endemic stoneflies and many other invertebrates rely on clean, cool, plentiful water. It’s time we did everything we can to

This is what an ecological disaster looks like.

Last week a group of Spey Ghillies joined us to visit and learn about the monstrosity that is the Tummel Valley Scheme.

They were rightly shocked and concerned by what they saw - just look at the pictures.

This is a scandal. Here you can see the river of water that is being continually taken from the Upper Spey, as part of the SSE Tummel Scheme.

How this was ever allowed to be approved, we don’t know, but the fact that it continues is a tragedy.

This is what a freed river looks like. 9 years ago natural processes were restored in this trib of the Spey. It can now use its floodplain, rewetting & creating bankside habitats, slowing the flow & helping to prevent downstream flooding. fb.watch/90KIaGfVlm/

⚠️ Important update ⚠️

SEPA has just announced that the Spey catchment is experiencing 'Moderate Water Scarcity', the second worse category.

It is becoming abundantly clear that we must before it is too late for our salmon, wildlife and river.

Turns out rivers need water to function properly. Especially under a changing climate and shifts in precipitation regimes.

I am excited to see how we can make the Spey wet again.

Preliminary findings from the Moray Firth Tracking Project are now out!

They show that man-made barriers have a huge impact on smolt survival.

Soon we will have the evidence needed to prove that we need to .

The Scottish Government should stop water being taken from the Spey and not returned. They could start by getting rid of the Spey dam

Road Warrior Spey Fishery Board One could be forgiven for thinking they have enough water from rain in Fort Wm. However, British Aluminum Co., (1944) built Spey Dam to divert water west to help power their smelter. Now, to ensure its future health/biodiversity Spey needs to retain all its waters
