New Zealand Sign Language Act 2006 made NZSL an official language creating rights and obligations to ensure that Deaf community has the same access to information and services as everybody else.
Why are we not adding sign language on road signs?

Miss9 has been off school sick all week and taught herself NZ sign language from a website she discovered. She did this entirely of her own accord. I am so beyond impressed and her NZSL vocabulary is growing rapidly!

20,000 people in NZ use New Zealand Sign Language, approximately 4,600 are Deaf. “NZSL is an official language, but it is endangered.
I would argue that it's even more endangered then te reo, and nobody is promoting this......

When you spend your life pushing for spoken-language interpreting working conditions to meet the better sign-language interpreting ones, but the government has plans to make *all* of it shittier instead🙃
