Form 5 enjoyed stepping back in time at Lunt Roman Fort! Met by "Gnaeus," an auxiliary soldier from Thessaly in Greece, our children learned about ancient military tactics and even practiced Roman marching and battle formations. #WeAreAshfold #RomanDay #LuntRomanFort #adventure

💡 Spotlight on the Lunt Roman Fort Granaries were an important feature of all Roman forts. They not only housed the grain for the troops, but also stored valuable equipment. Each fort was supposed to hold a year's supply of food in case they fell under siege. #LuntRomanFort

Surrounding the whole fort was a ditch. Behind the ditch was the fort rampart. These were two sloping turf walls filled with soil, topped with a chest high wooden fence with gaps wide enough to fit a sword through ⚔️ #LuntRomanFort
