#OTD 3 years ago, #HurricaneDORIAN earned its place in history when it smashed into #AbacoIsland in the #Bahamas with winds of up to 185 mph.

The storm then stalled over neighboring #GrandBahama , subjecting some locations to Category 5 winds for 24 hours straight.

Our country went to war with a monster storm one year ago.

Thousands of lives were changed forever.

Here's to rebuilding a stronger Abaco and Grand Bahama and never forgetting those we lost.

Lighting isn't supposed to happen in hurricanes at all, because it comes from friction in vertical winds, not horizontal.

But there it is in #HurricaneIsaias just like in #HurricaneDorian .

I think this is assistance +++ and that these hurricanes could have been much worse.

The demolition of Ocracoke School began this morning. There has been a steady parade of residents stopping by to have a late look and tell some stories. Change can be hard but we are looking forward to a 21st century school. #ocracoke #obx #hurricanedorian
