Most of my #FalklandsShags study colonies are counted from the ground but some are just *too* big. UAVs are useful for photographing big flat colonies, so I can now slowly count our biggest colony, one bird at a time, from the comfort of home. Any guesses on final colony size? 1/
After 2 days of travel I’m finally home after field season #2. Over 2 months we tagged 64 #FalklandsShags across 4 field sites, collected 109 diet samples, counted 17 colonies, gave 1 radio interview & 1 presentation. Lots of exciting data to analyse next (after a lot of sleep)!
Southern rockhopper penguins are small but mighty. Often found breeding amongst #FalklandsShags and black-browed albatrosses, this species has faced huge declines in recent years but it’s not clear why. 4/7

Danni Danni Thompson (she/her) researches the foraging behaviour of #FalklandsShags . By collecting diet samples, tracking & dive data, she will identify what the shags are eating, where they go to feed, & why this differs between birds, to test ecological theory #SBSWomen #WomenInScience
📢VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY📢
The exciting #Falklands Shags project is looking for volunteers to help collect important data on shag foraging behavior this summer
