This is what happens when nature is given a chance; #Carrifran Wildwood. Scotland, southern uplands. This isn’t the dawn chorus but 11am. Listen to the birdsong. It’s nature recovery amongst an otherwise sheep hammered uplands landscape.

Fantastic to see the #Carrifran rewilding initiative get recognition and praise. People are now travelling to our little spot in Scotland to bear witness to its transformation and fill themselves with hope & a belief that regeneration is possible & can be replicated elsewhere.

Communityled #Carrifran restoring #Scotland #southernuplands :as once was & could be: sink for #climate -heating #carbon , #flood -mitigating sponge for freshwater; generator of #biodiversity & source of wonder, identity&hope for people, locally & globally theguardian.com/environment/20…

Manipulating factors can reveal mechanisms, but they can also throw up artificial anomalies. An example would be saying that #Carrifran is resistant to ecological restoration, but if there is no longer a seed source due to overgrazing, then it is a human created landscape trap 3/

Former NatureScot account Er... you and Scottish Government could empower communities to take the lead in expanding woodland rather than contracting that task out to city bankers. We already know that it can work on a landscape scale. #Carrifran

Once there was a single tree in the valley. Now there are a million. Yes we can! #carrifran #reforesting #nativewoods Borders Forest Trust youtube.com/watch?v=G3_9OX…

"Let us have more places like #Carrifran, where natural processes are allowed to predominate, with minimal human intervention and no livestock. Places that feel truly wild, rather than tamed. Is that not what #rewilding is all about?"

Great way to kick off the week in #Scotland getting out in the field at #Carrifran discussing how the CreditNature Ecosystem Integrity Index would respond to nature’s 20yrs of recovery here and the best data to capture this! #NARIA #rewilding #naturerecovery

Stopover at #Carrifran to check that our #NARIA metric framework forecasting principles align with the outcome of 20 yrs of wildwood restoration. Thanks @Boadersforest for creating such a fab reference site! #rewilding #naturepositive

Lee Schofield My 'go to' place to experience the restorative power of nature😊 #Carrifran Borders Forest Trust . Try also Talla and Gameshope over the hill to see a younger version of the same ecological restoration but on an even grander scale 👍

Formerly restricted to inaccessible crags out of the reach of nibblers, flowering plants are starting to tumble down the fell. Amongst them are Starry and Mossy Saxifrages which within a few more years will blanket areas of the fell as they do at the inspirational #Carrifran.

Will Anderson Ol Rewild Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🌳 Rob Yorke Kieran Dodds The landscape trap & #wildnature now having restraint in self-assembly is due to human agency. Woodland restoration at #Carrifran thus became a process of reinstatement of species, an ecological restoration based on tree & shrub planting to reverse the effects of human agency

Will Anderson Ol Rewild Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🌳 Rob Yorke Kieran Dodds Decision on native tree species planting at #Carrifran depended on pollen analysis; historical records & relict species in valley; & remaining ancient woodland fragments nearby. NVC woodland communities identified using Ecological Site Classification. Surely #wildnature's choice?
