Amazingly, despite Canada being a founding member of Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA), 3 of our are coal mines: two new, one a proposed expansion. Coal production is growing steadily in BC and Alberta and there's no sign that the govt intends to halt approvals of new projects 4/

Our government is either betting that climate action will fail, and we will continue burning fossil fuels as the human race careens towards extinction, or setting our communities up for economic disaster as these are pulled offline decades earlier than planned. 19/

This is what entrenched power looks like. Fossil Fuel giants making obscene profits in the order of billions do not care whether people live or die, and especially they do not care whether people in the Global South live or die.

Tsarina RubyRainbow Cindy I don't mind ALP climate criticism. Brandt is right that ALP support for new mines are that shut the IPCC's 'narrow window' b4 catastrophe. I don't want them to block a suite of policy measures that will actually make cuts. The politics must not sabotage the outcome.

Canada's 12 hold reserves that would, when burned, emit 39 billion tonnes of CO2e. That's the equivalent of 60 years' of Canada's current domestic emissions, and more than 1/10th of what's left in the best-guess carbon budget for 1.5C. 5/
