1) Astley Abbotts, St Calixtus, Shropshire. A Shropshire Gem, originating in the C12th with major alterations late C17th and the inevitable Victorian meetings.

As you'd expect most C17th with St George are issued by drink sellers, they even nicely follow main roads.
Other influences may be house signs, religious/national feeling and rebuses. Like George Jackson, a York grocer with a dashing St George on his token.

Stunning Buckden Palace/Towers, Cambridgeshire 😍
Built as one of the palaces of the Bishops of Lincoln, the Great Tower dates to the C15th. The complex grew over the centuries, including C17th inner gatehouse & curtain walls & a large Victorian villa.

My favourite fact about the Tudor House (late C16th/early C17th) in Weymouth is that it was almost demolished when declared unfit for human habitation by the Borough Medical Officer of Health in 1939. Saved by local architect Ernest Lewis and bequeathed to the civic society.

Totally enchanted by Celia Bell's sumptuous piece on French fairy tales and cooking with Madame d'Aulnoy, one of the inspirations for Celia's devastatingly sexy C17th historical novel The Disenchantment from Serpent's Tail theparisreview.org/blog/2023/10/0…

Ian P Peter Doyle I think so Ian - small scale feels better for C17th but 28mm is great if you have space. I like Solo Gaming as it suits me, but it's not for everyone. Space Marine Alex - Storm of Steel Wargaming was a great game which has simply evolved over decades but I still like this version 😃

2) Maps dating to the C17th confirm Western Tigray within the Tigray confederation. Its subjugation under Amhara rule has been brief, marked by political turmoil- the land has again been occupied by Amhara forces for over 2 year, does that make it innately Amhara land?

Lifelines Research Northumberland & Durham historical docs Amazing exchange, thanks! Come across the precise issue in book out Nov. and current work - wishing to balance C17th dialect (in this case, Tyneside and some Ayrshire) with clarity.

Thinking that we are seeing a repeat of the Executive v Rule of Law played out in C17th. Recent case of Trudi Warner and rights of jurors, was dismissed by reference to C17th case where jurors were locked up until they gave the desired verdict, & refused.
