Marking the 200th anniversary of the death of Lord Byron 19th April 1824. Major English Romantic poet. Flamboyant and notorious; famously described by Lady Caroline Lamb as 'mad, bad and dangerous to know'.

in 1824, Byron died from rheumatic fever in Missolonghi, Greece, where he had gone to support the Greek struggle for independence from Ottoman rule. He was deeply mourned in England and became a hero in Greece.

Did you know that, in the gardens of Newstead Abbey lies a touching testament to Byron's beloved dog, Boatswain? 🐶💚

The tomb is inscribed with Byron's heartfelt poem ‘Epitaph to a Dog’.

A garden with all flowers—except the rose;
—A fount that only wants its living stream;
A night, with every star, save Diana's beam.
Lost to our eyes the present forms shall be,
That turn from tracing them to dream of thee;
