Last BOAC Comet service arrives at London Airport (1965)

This was a 40-hour, 8-stop flight. Quite a small aircraft for such a route (c.80 seats), possibly subject to a Foreign Office subsidy as embassies probably main customers.

It passes a VC10, its replacement on many routes.

C-4 Argonaut of East African Airways boarding at Nairobi (1958)

The C-4 was a RR Merlin-engined version of the DC-4 built by Canadair - much faster than the latter, but even noisier.

BOAC provided the EAA aircraft and crews in the early days, hence the uniforms and basic scheme

Peter Stefanovic There has to be a balance between public & private ownership.
BOAC & British Leyland needed to go private to compete on a world stage. However, critical infrastructure should always be in the public domain - water, energy, health, rail, roads, army, air traffic control, etc.

BOAC (British Airways) crew getting a ride to the terminal at Dum Dum (Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International) Airport, Calcutta.
I have been closely watching India's gradual development since 1947.
Every decade, we felt the development, with pride.
At least I did.
