Joe Emison Dax Dan We're starting to implement Check, the Dog, so that's another why use AppSync. AppSync also doesn't support custom directives which could be largely replicated with a custom directive elsewhere.

The Serverless Terminal I think my answer is no secret 😆

AppSync has so many advantages over API Gateway in my opinion and the gap is getting larger and larger every day.

My top reasons:
- GraphQL schema (validation)
- Subscriptions > Websockets
- JS resolvers > VTL or Lambda (direct integration)

Dax Dan I can see why. I've been pushing for us to move off AppSync entirely. The dev experience sucks so much that we've abandoned it for lambda only resolvers. Lambda only resolvers then feel kind of like a big why even bother with AppSync at all at this point.

G Joe Emison Dax Dan Check, the Dog Everyone is frustrated with the AppSync DX. Amplify trying to be all things to everyone doesn't help.

I've just started a new project which I'm using to experiment with building APIs from models.

I'd love to hear other peoples horror stories / needs if anyone has time.
