Unprecedented heatwaves, floods, & drought are destroying lives around the world. Yet, according to the OECD ➡️ Better Policies for Better Lives & International Energy Agency, fossil fuel subsidies from major economies nearly DOUBLED last year, reaching their second-highest levels in 7 years. These subsidies are reckless and immoral.

What happens when carbon prices increase in some places but not in others? Using satellite data for 140 countries from Climate TRACE, OECD Economics colleagues and I show that carbon pricing remains highly effective, even when accounting for carbon leakage.
