The #Slowworm aka legless lizard has a stronghold in #Worcester. the 12 I found today in tussocky grass supports this but we can help boost numbers in other parts of the country by encouraging grass tussocks and laying down corrugated iron or felt mats that trap in the heat.

Staying in the Brecklands at our usual holiday cottage near Knettishall Heath. Lots of cuckoos around on the Heath, and in the garden of the cottage there are hares in the paddock, a cream spot tiger caterpillar, and a brambling feeding under the feeders! SuffolkWildlifeTrust

It's not just about flowers. Letting grass grow long so it flowers and seeds is valuable in its own right. It provides structure to the grassland, plus shelter and food for insects. Long grass has a beauty to it too!

We should all encourage less mowing of grass in public spaces, Councils please do your bit and stop the grass cutting and spraying.

Excellent. BNA president Roger Tabor organised the "Motorways & the Biologist" conference chaired by Prof Kenneth Mellanby held back in Oct 1973 at NELP (now UEL) with aim of encouraging motorway verges for wildlife, which had a great outcome.

Important comments made here dispelling the myth of a silver bullet to save us by planting trees and growing flowers for honey bees, well done for being brave enough to make them.

Good to see so much snow on Cairngorm, we've not seen this much in June for many years and it's so important for the alpine flora.
