Working paper w/ Sidak Yntiso on criminal appeals in NYS: Appellate Division judges 33-36% less likely to rule in favor of black defendants in reappointment years; no effects for nonblack defendants. No marginal effects from reelection years. tinyurl.com/y3s3qczv Thoughts: 1/n

1/ This paper with Dimitri Landa has had a long journey, but we are psyched to see it in print in Journal of Politics @[email protected]. We develop a simple model of two-level governance with externalities to probe the common intuition that federalism is conflict-minimizing. journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/71…

Very exciting! My chapter, "Spillover Effects in Experimental Data", with Aronow, Dean Eckles, Cyrus Samii discusses current methods for design-based estimation of spillover effects, and applies them with the interference R package. Check it out: github.com/szonszein/inte…

NYU's Politics Department seeks candidates for three faculty positions for scholars doing outstanding research on race, identity, and inequality in domestic, comparative, or international contexts. Visit apply.interfolio.com/91446 to see a full description and apply.

Important clarification re NYU Politics search: APSA eJobs and the ad text list the correct deadline of 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟎, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏. A software glitch made the wrong date erroneously appear in the Deadline field on Interfolio. We have corrected this, and regret the error.

Sanford Gordon (@sanford_gordon) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Re-upping this announcement, with a reminder that the application deadline is September 10. (As noted in a prior tweet, Interfolio briefly listed the wrong deadline.) If you’re applying or know someone who is, please make a note of this!

What is the reaction of the host society when immigrants succeed at political integration through elected office? In a working paper with @guygrossman we find a widespread backlash from a violent-prone fringe, the mass public and the elites osf.io/xd4wk/ 1/n

We're hiring a political scientist at NYU Abu Dhabi! This is a really fantastic place to work, and though I am not on the search committee, I'm very happy to discuss the job or the institution. #PsJMinfo #WomenAlsoKnowStuff #POCAlsoKnowStuff

🚨BLOGPOST ALERT🚨 Sanford Gordon and Sidak Yntiso empirically analyze the consequences of the recall of Aaron Persky (responsible judge in Brock Turner case) for the Californian judicial system. #polisciresearch Read the new #JOP blogpost here⬇️ jop.blogs.uni-hamburg.de/collateral-dam…

Here, Sidak Yntiso and I preview our forthcoming Journal of Politics @[email protected] article on the consequences of the Persky recall campaign for subsequent sentencing decisions in CA. We observe what critics anticipated: a substantial increase in punitiveness following the recall announcement.
