Thanks to TIME for including me in the #TIME100NEXT list of innovators shaping the future. time.com/collection/tim… Excited to see mycorrhizal fungi in the spotlight. I hesitated sharing the news because of the sensationalism in the write-up. A thread.

Ever wondered about the ‘herstory’ of science? In our recent paper we outline the remarkable contributions of ten outstanding women to Australian coral reef science: publish.csiro.au/HR/HR22009 (1/12)

“Fungi most likely distribute carbon according to their own interests, not those of trees" Great quote by Kathryn Flinn Lets hope this piece by Gabriel Popkin will stimulate ideas & tools to understand nutrient movement from a fungal view point. nytimes.com/2022/11/07/sci…

The water was cold but the sun was shining. Happy gals all around. Can’t wait to see what Róisín Hayden will reveal about how mixed symbiont communities work (or don’t work) in Galaxea corals

On climate change, we often assume people are either believers or deniers. I don't like either label, because climate change is not a religion. Instead, I prefer the 6 categories identified by Yale Program on Climate Change Communication for the US. climatecommunication.yale.edu/about/projects…

#BakerMcIlroy lab members both past & present taking to the field yesterday. May is perfect diving season in #HongKong - sunny, but not yet too hot and the vis was great! Stay tuned to see what they were working on 🤫🤿 #fieldseason #scuba #coralresearch

All hands on deck! #MarineGeo is back and all of our volunteers have been hard at work this week processing the last of the #ARMS in Hong Kong waters. Pics of all the weird & wonderful creatures we find incoming … #biodiversity #marinegeo #volunteering

That’s a wrap on APCRS2023 for the #BakerMcIlroy team! Grateful for a wonderful week of sharing science, meeting new people, exploring Singapore (and tearing up the dance floor). Until next time! #lastonesstanding🪸 #APCRS2023

I am so grateful that no part of my job is judged based on my Cantonese proficiency… after 10 years in HK I can still barely say “good morning”. Tip of the cap to the many scientists who succeed despite these clearly significant #languagebarriers

So much work but made fun and interesting by awesome team! Coastal urbanization + big ocean -> strong water quality gradient -> habitat heterogeneity at small scales -> accumulation of diverse/unique communities (even at high impact sites) -> super high regional biodiversity.
