The FSRH has issued a statement on Mirena® 52mg LNG-IUD which is now licensed for 8 years for contraception, so what does this mean for existing users and users of other 52mg LNG-IUDs? 🤔⁠ ⁠

1️⃣ Does this change apply to individuals who already have a device in-situ?⁠ Yes, existing users can be advised that they can keep the device for 8 years for contraception.⁠

3️⃣ Does this change apply to other 52mg LNG-IUDs?⁠ ⁠ The FSRH CEU are in the process of reconvening the Guideline Development Group to consider whether this extended use can be applied to other 52mg LNG-IUDs. We will keep you posted on timings for this in due course.⁠
