On the afternoon of 7 May 1915 a German U-boat torpedoed Lusitania 11 miles off the southern coast of Ireland inside the declared war zone. A second internal explosion caused her to sink in 18 minutes, killing 1,198 passengers and crew.

24 Oct, 1944. USS Tang was devastated by its own torpedo, sinking in 180fsw. Injured, the shipmates sealed themselves in the torpedo room. 13 escaped using Momsen Lungs, 8 made it to the surface, 5 were rescued and languished as POWs in Japan until the war ended. #navalhistory
