Wildfire Update -July 7, 2024 – Wray Mesa fire is located 2 miles east of Utah border. Fire is burning in pinyon pine and juniper and is currently 40 acres. Single Engine Aircraft Tankers (SEAT’s) were able to drop loads of fire retardant around the fire perimeter this evening.

*Nucla Wildfire Deputies and firefighters from multiple agencies on scene of a wildfire burning a few miles NE of Nucla. The estimated 200 acre fire is not at all contained and moving NE. Smoke is visible from Norwood, but there is no threat to San Miguel County.

Carpenter Ridge prescribed burning on BLM land is going well. Firefighters are over halfway done. Smoke can be seen in the surrounding areas. Project area is located at the west end of Paradox Valley about 5 miles north of Paradox in Montrose County, Colorado.

Today Southwest Fire treated 192 acres on Carpenter Ridge. If conditions are favorable: 9/26-Crews will conduct aerial ignition of 634 acres in Unit 42A on West Dolores Rim, about 3 miles E of Egnar. 9/27-Crews plan to burn 124 acres in Unit 20A, about 7.4 miles NE of Dove Creek.

Updated, BLM SW District plans to conduct prescribed burns on West Dolores Rim: • Sept. 26: Crews will conduct hand & aerial (helicopter) ignitions up to 634 acres in Unit 42A, located east of Egnar, CO. • Sept. 27 Crews may conduct burning on Unit 20, NE of Dove Creek, CO.

Great weather conditions today made it possible for firefighters to treat 634 acres on West Dolores Rim Prescribed Burn project east of Egnar, CO. If conditions allow, firefighters will continue to burn the remaining 124 acres tomorrow in Unit 20A, located NE of Dove Creek, CO.

Firefighters have the conditions today to burn West Dolores Rim prescribed fire Unit 20A, a 124-acre Ponderosa pine unit located NE of Dove Creek, CO. This unit will be burned using ground ignitions only. Smoke is expected to be visible from US-491 and CO-141.

Firefighters on the West Dolores Rim prescribed burn had another great day of burning. They treated 124 acres in Unit 20A, bringing the total to 758 acres accomplished in the last two days. Fire resources will monitor units in the following days. Smoke is expected to be visible.

Southwest Fire plans to burn piles on approx. 500 acres of public land in Tres Rios and Uncompahgre field offices this week as conditions allow. Dawson project area is located near Dry Creek Basin in Dolores County southwest of County Rd D and east of US Hwy 491 (shown on Map).

Due to current weather conditions, BLM fire crews are unable to access the Dawson Pile RX. The pile burn has been canceled. Fire crews will monitor the weather for another window to burn.

The BLM Tres Rios field office plans to conduct prescribed fire treatments starting April 23, 2025, in Unit 1, containing 316 acres. Visithttps://www.blm.gov/press-release and inciweb.wildfire.gov for more information.

Due to high winds and dry fuels, the West Dolores Rim prescribed burn has been postponed. Firefighters will continue to monitor the weather for the next burn window.
