Essex Farm cemetery and casualty clearing station. Final resting place of Valentine Strudwick. He was born on St Valentine’s Day 1900 and died a month before his 16th birthday on the Somme. He was 14 when he enlisted and lied about his age, so he could fight for his country 💔

Tyne Cot cemetery. Many graves bear personal inscriptions at the request of their families. They are beautiful but make for very difficult reading 😞

Mr Blayney and three of our wonderful Saffron Walden County High School history students. They are ready to lay wreaths at the Menin Gate on behalf of our school community, to honour those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country. #atthegoingdownofthesun #wewillrememberthem

And passing by some places of great interest for WOTR students - for example, Tours was site of a treaty in 1444 that agreed marriage of Henry VI to Margaret of Anjou. As lands were given to her family, rather than her bringing usual dowry, this was not entirely well received….

Another WOTR themed day out for the SWCHS History family. Beautiful Tewkesbury - the abbey is magnificent and battlefield trail led us to the Bloody Meadow where Margaret of Anjou saw the destruction of her army and the loss of her son.
