Ibna Mattuta Thank you so much for highlighting this! I was there in 2019 and loved it. Went back in 2024 and it had been turned into an Omani exhibition hall. Even the guide seemed embarrassed. National Museums of Kenya bring back our artefacts!

Ibna Mattuta I was there many years ago, I remember being amazed by the size, majesty and design of the Ivory Siwa plus all other aspects of the exhibitions. There was a balance Indian, Chinese, Portuguese, stability and indigenous influences were well explain. This is Sad 😔

This is also at the National museum. A whole Omani section that had me very confused because it had very little to show in its connection to EA

Video 1: Omani Exhibits on the first floor Video 2 & 3: Exhibit rooms that used to hold indigenous artefacts but now only have pictures of sultans on the walls Video 4: Lamu Siwas at their new location

There is an event happening today at Nairobi Museum. Hope those in attendance will raise this issue because some of the key people involved will be there

A lot of people only see what is happening in the public sphere, but there is also a lot of pushing happening behind the scenes as we aim to strategically get change where decisions are being made.

Not going to lie, but things like this Lamu museum/culture thing are really really frustrating, and it sometimes feels like there isn't much we can do, then you remember Wangari Maathai went up against Moi na stimu inapanda

Kenya’s Lamu Museum once told the story of local coastal communities. Now, after renovations funded by Oman, entire indigenous exhibits have disappeared. We unpack how foreign influence sidelined centuries of indigenous heritage. 🎧Listen now to TRT World’s In the Newsroom

Got these copies from Ibna Mattuta. She was inspired into writing the book after finding most Kiswahili ABC books available were bilingual ABC books. This one is purely in Kiswahili...Z ni ya Zulia. Will distribute these to some nursery schools & children spaces. Cc: #Hiistoriya
