Wonder how IV and Difference-in-Differences can be combined to strengthen #causalinference under unmeasured confounding? Read our new preprint on the so-called IDID method :-). Joint work with Ting Ye, Stijn Vansteelandt, Sean Hennessy, Dylan Small and others.

Professors & students self-censor for fear of mob-rule punishment. We need a critical mass, enough people daring to confront the yelling thought police. University bosses, stop your cowardice. Do your job. Back free speech. Protect academic freedom. bostonglobe.com/2023/04/12/opi…

Very excited about this new paper! We study if one can improve popular semiparametric / doubly robust / DML causal effect estimators -- without adding structural assumptions... Short answer: nope! Turns out these methods are minimax optimal here Lots of Qs left to explore...

Should you use projection estimands or derivative effects for continuous exposures? It turns out that they are the same thing* (along with ATEs) + you can use the R-learner for estimation. New preprint with Karla DO Stijn Vansteelandt arxiv.org/abs/2308.05456

Riesznet (Victor Chernozhukov #peace 🇺🇦 et al.) has propelled Riesz representers into the causal inference limelight, but can we say more about the representers for similar looking estimands? Answer: Yes arxiv.org/abs/2308.05456 Karla DO Stijn Vansteelandt

When selecting a causal estimand, it’s crucial to balance asking the right question with the feasibility of answering it under realistic assumptions. Ignoring this in clinical trials risks chasing shadows. arxiv.org/abs/2409.11162 1/2 #CausalInference #PharmaStats #Estimands

Our paper shows this by giving examples on the use of causal assumptions that are inevitably violated. We call for a more balanced approach to estimand formulation, and causal analyses that go beyond merely stating assumptions. 2/2 #CausalInference #PharmaStats #Estimands
