12th running of the Kentucky Derby, had a winning time of 2:36.50 (a Derby record). The winning horse was BEN ALI who was owned by James Ben Ali Haggin. JB Haggin was the patriarch of the 3 generations that acquired what ultimately became the Haggin Museum’s fine art collection.
