New research continues to show an increase in Melanoma rates in the UK, furthering the argument for a stronger focus on prevention activities.

Welsh medium schools and schools in North Wales that were surveyed were more likely to have a formal sun safety policy, suggesting a lack of consistency in sun safety policies across Wales.

This finding is concerning given that riskier sun safety behaviours have been shown in more deprived areas and in people from lower socioeconomic groups.

Only 39% of schools that responded to our survey have a formal sun safety policy. Schools cited lack of awareness, time and resource constraints as reasons for not having a sun safety policy indicating a need for support in this area. academic.oup.com/ced/advance-ar…

While the UV index is below 3 in the UK currently, it is important to note that in Winter Sun holiday destinations closer to the equator there is high levels of UV all year round.
