Relying on imported gas puts Mexico at risk of price spikes, currency shocks, supply disruptions, and costly subsidies 🇲🇽 The alternative? A 45% renewables share by 2030 could cut gas imports by 20%, save $1.6 billion every year, and create 434K jobs. ember-energy.org/latest-insight…

There's 75MW imported in the last 12 months, mostly since March. If all installed, that'd generate about enough 27%(!) of the reported electricity demand in 2023.

IMPORTANTE. Nunca

LATIN AMERICA HAS DODGED COAL💪 This year, the last two planned coal power plants were cancelled: 🟢Honduras joined PPCA, implying the cancellation of the 0.1 GW Puente Alto. 🟢 Brazil’s last coal proposal – the 0.6 GW Pedra Altas plant - seems shelved. globalenergymonitor.org/press-release/…

Electrification could now reach 75% of all energy demand, as the road-transport and heating sectors rapidly electrify 🔥🚗 These two sectors account for 50% of global energy use and are now ready to switch from fossil molecules to clean electrons. ember-energy.org/latest-insight…
