Wow, Martinis and Devoret! About 10 years ago most people predicted the Nobel *wouldn't* be awarded in this area until actually scalable FTQC would be achieved. It was also a somewhat open secret (?) that Martinis was gunning for the Nobel.

My John Martinis story: He chaired the session I gave my first ever APS March Meeting talk in 2017. I talked about low level scheduling of quantum circuit operations. I went over time which is a big no-no & usually harshly cut off, but he was gracious about it and let me finish.
