The shuttering of BuzzFeed News means the end of one of the best style newsletters around — progressive and thoughtful and helpful.

Lots of feelings this week about the loss of BuzzFeed News, but this piece from the style guide is a really good read for local gov communicators. Ambiguous grammar can be insidious.

BuzzFeed Style Guide @heyimbenton I'm so gutted to hear that this is the final issue of the Quibbles & Bits newsletter! 😿 This was one of my favorite resources for learning about inclusive language and its loss will create a gaping hole in my inbox (and my heart).

I am so proud of what this team has accomplished — and how they grew not only the BuzzFeed copydesk but also this newsletter and this account into something equal parts sharp, hilarious, innovative, and immeasurably valuable for writers and journalists across the internet. 😭😭😭

We need more of this in media and it’s a shame it’s going away. I feel like I’m pretty online and I didn’t even know about this until now. Probably more on me than the system, but the system is also not great.

BuzzFeed News was a special place to work as a copy editor. Not enough newsrooms champion a copy team that pushes writers to reexamine their language for the biases we did. It was nice to feel trusted by the editors and reporters we worked with!!!

Just so proud of every single person on this ferocious little team, we punched so far above our weight and became a really invaluable resource for so many writers and editors. I am so lucky that I got to start my career here, and with BuzzFeed News. BuzzFeed Style Guide FOREVER and EVER.
