Just saw that my Amersfoort team mate Tim Grutter finished on 6/9 and gained 20 elo points. He needs 2400 to get his IM title… is he just short? The title would be richly deserved! Hastings International Chess Congress

Unfortunately I missed the prize giving at hastings due to stupid decision to take bus into Eastbourne, underestimating how long it would take. Brain not functioning due to lack of sleep. Many thanks to Stuart Conquest and others for putting on an an amazing event!

Our 16 year-old Masters winner, Haowen Xue, from China, with John Ashworth, CEO of Caplin Systems Ltd. Haowen achieved his third GM norm here at Hastings, and so becomes a Grandmaster. Many congratulations from all of us! 👏🥇🏆#chess #Hastings John Ashworth Caplin Systems English Chess Federation (ECF)

Garry Kasparov takes on Stuart Conquest in a special simultaneous display and I am playing in the background. 5 players in the UK and 5 in the USA. #chess #GarryKasparov #1980s

Very sad news - Icelandic GM Friðrik Ólafsson, who only recently turned 90, has passed away. The former FIDE President played three times in our Premier tournament, winning jointly in 1955/6 with Viktor Korchnoi. RIP. icelandmonitor.mbl.is/news/news/2025… via Iceland Monitor

Our "Challenge the Master" tent returns at #ChessFest on Sun 13 July at Trafalgar Square, with more masters than ever, including former British champion Stuart Conquest (pictured). Pit your wits against the best of British! Fun free and open to all! Proudly supported by XTX Markets

I took Vishnu(9) & friend to a chess camp near Brompton Cemetery earlier today. I remembered that there is a famous chess player there - Johannes Zukertort (28.Qb4!!) - so we paid homage. Kudos to Stuart Conquest for his work in 2012 that led to restoring the gravestone.

Measuring 110m x 110m - Trafalgar Square is the largest square in the capital. Tomorrow sees all of it covered by hundreds of chess boards, 10 giant sets & living chess display. If you love #chess, come on down and play in the glorious sun - completely FREE thanks to XTX Markets
