Even by Peace's ridiculous standards, this understated lament and paean that recasts a modern myth as the human tragedy it was, is magnificent. Deserves to be garlanded with awards and sell absolutely shitloads. He's one of the very, very best we have.

Feeling totally stressed out and overfaced today by the Everest of lit stuff i'm staring at. Dig your own grave and lay in it, i spose; it's me that generates all this work but still, fuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Not slept properly for days either. Weeks, actually. Again.

Just been talking to a homeless lad outside the petrol station in Adel - said i was the first person to talk to him in FIVE hours. Sleeping in the graveyard over the road, as a lot of homeless do, cos no one will go there at night. Talk about a walking metaphor. So, so bleak.

I've been involved with the MD crew more or less since the account appeared way back when. Memorial Device has built an amazingly tight community here; their support for this book, and my work in general, over the years, has been so humbling it's hard to put into words 🙏🙏🙏
