So now Delap’s injury becomes a very serious matter. I’m not a big fan of his and still don’t believe he is at Chelsea’s level, but it’s better to have a 9 than to not have one. And Palmer has to come back as soon as possible. We’re leaving ourselves exposed to injuries.

Yes, FFP is the reason. That’s why you don’t spend stupid fees on players you won’t use: Kellyman, Washington, Amougou etc unnecessary purchases we knew beforehand had no place in the 1st team squad. These purchases come back to bite. Market discipline, don’t say it enough.

Most of the moves were fine to good, and the outgoings is a good thing (well, incomplete), but that’s the point. If you leave yourself short at the one position where the coach can’t improvise/make up for it; it can cost you. It’s the one dangerous, potential fatal mistake.

She is the Lauren James replacement, not the JRK one. It’s pretty clear LJ’s injury is significant (or the injury reoccurrence is now at a critical point at least).

Thompson still has plenty of development to go through so it's not the ready-made needed upgrade (a la Girma, Carpenter etc), but with LJ's injuries, the team was in bad need of a dribbler/ball carrier and she is very good at that. Target is to round up her game a bit more.

PL record spending is good news for the rest of Europe. Some leagues are in a dreadful economic state (Ligue 1 in a deep crisis, Serie A & La Liga needing revitalization), PL money helps everyone. PL is dominant, yes. You can’t change that, fundamental baked-in advantages.
