The NCAA dead period has ended and recruits will start swarming to campuses for visits today. SLU has 8 players scheduled over 12 days with 10 spots to fill. Three are expected to return. Scheduling and coaching hires are also on front burner.

The way the numbers are crunching, Josh Schertz will most likely have 10 scholarships to fill at SLU. It’s going to be a wild couple of weeks.

Josh Scherz’s wife, Natalia, is so close with the Indiana St. staff that she drove to Terre Haute on Tues, picked up the team managers/grad assts and took them to Busch Stadium to see Schertz throw the 1st pitch and watch the game. She then drove them back, arriving at 2:30 a.m.

Josh Schertz has four of his five assistant coaches lined up: Antone Gray, Zak Boisvert, Rob Gardiner and Phil Gaetano. Two of the five will not be allowed to recruit off campus.

Bruce Zhang has entered the transfer portal. SLU has 2 players remaining on roster not in the portal.

The first recruits Josh Schertz will have on campus at SLU will be 6-11 Max Pikaar, who plays at Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, and 6-3 Josiah Dotzler, who is a freshman at Creighton. Pikaar is from The Netherlands.

Indiana State is working to finalize a deal to hire Matthew Graves as its next head coach, source told SI.

Graves was the Sycamores' top assistant under Josh Schertz. Went 65-96 in five seasons as the head coach at South Alabama from 2014-2018.
