To some surprise, the ITF has suddenly announced that November’s BJK Cup finals has changed from round robin to a knockout event lasting nine days. Also been decided that it’s a good idea to overlap the last two days in Seville with the first two days of the Davis Cup in Malaga.

Intriguing match later in Madrid between Rafael Nadal and Darwin Blanch (approx 4pm UK). The 16-year-old American is one of four siblings who have all played pro tennis in some form - two weeks ago he lost to older brother Dali at a Futures in Gran Canaria thetimes.co.uk/sport/tennis/a…

Interesting and fair post-match analysis with Anne Keothavong and Colin Fleming on Sky Sports after Emma Raducanu’s tame first-round loss in Madrid. Keothavong’s comments are particularly notable as the Great Britain Billie Jean King Cup captain. thetimes.co.uk/sport/tennis/a…

An intriguing subplot throughout the European clay-court swing is the chance to qualify for the Olympics, yet there is barely a mention of this by the ATP and the WTA. Big opportunity for more storylines and greater interest in the early rounds. Can’t understand why it’s ignored.

Intrigued to see how Rafael Nadal plays later today as he makes his return in Barcelona. Some questions over his serve but, by all accounts, his groundstrokes are in good shape. He's shown before that he doesn't need to be fully fit to be a force on clay. thetimes.co.uk/sport/tennis/a…

This BJK Cup qualifier has completely flipped since 5:30pm yesterday. GB now 2-1 up against France after Katie Boulter beats Clara Burel for her first tour-level win on clay, including a second-set bagel. Emma Raducanu has the chance to seal victory next.

Emma Raducanu claims her best win of the year and best win on clay to keep Britain in this BJK Cup qualifier. She comes back from a set and a break down to defeat the former world No 4 Caroline Garcia on French soil. 1-1 heading into tomorrow.

Just across the English Channel in Le Portel for Great Britain’s Billie Jean King Cup qualifier away to France. Closer on paper than last year’s tie in Coventry but still a tough task on clay. British No 1 Katie Boulter has never played a WTA-level match on the surface.
