Jan 13: Feast of Kentigern (Mungo) (†612). Monk and bishop, evangelist of Strathclyde and Cumbria. The son of St Teneu (Enoch), he was born in Culross, Fife, and was said to have exchanged pastoral staffs with Columba towards the end of that saint’s life.

Today is the Feast of Glasgow's Patron Saint, St Mungo or Kentigern. The City's arms, which use elements from stories of the saint's life, have spawned dozens of coats of arms for institutions and people associated with the city. 1/4

We had a beautiful celebration of Mass today to mark the Feast Day of our Patron St Mungo, patron of our school, our Parish & our city. ‘Let Glasgow Flourish by the praising of His name & the preaching of His word’. Happy Feast day to St Mungo’s Academy too ☺️🙏🏼🌲🐟🐦🔔

Many thanks to Alan Tavener & the Strathclyde University Chamber Choir for last night's performance in St Andrew's Cathedral: a blend of chant & polyphony celebrating St Mungo, Columba and, in her 1500 Anniversary year, St Brigid of Kildaire. A recording will be available soon.

Looking forward to talking about the evolution of #Glasgow’s George Square for ST MUNGO FESTIVAL & AlexanderThomson_Soc in the Mitchell this afternoon. The square is on the verge of a major change so I’ll bringing the story right up to date by including a look at the new design…😉👍!
