Sunak’s wine legacy. The highest rates of duty on wine in Europe, with 64 bands of duty (to replace just 2!) from 1 Feb 2025. Will the next government do the right thing - it’s a simple move - and help businesses and consumers? My monthly newsletter… newsletter.bauduc.com/t/y-e-mjyduyd-…

Requiring solar panels on new homes should be a no-brainer. Labour should not cede to pressure from developers who want to reduce costs New homes must be fit for the future. That means super high insulation, energy-efficient heating, and solar as standard theguardian.com/environment/20…

It’s hard to post anything negative about this budget without being told to give up profits, pay your taxes & stop exploiting working people but if you want to understand how the wine trade has been kicked in the balls to no tax benefit whatsoever Hal explains it perfectly here👇

This is the key point. Badenoch keeps saying she is net zero sceptic not climate sceptic and she wants to see a proper plan for meeting the target. But if she doesn’t like the current plan it is now her responsibility to develop a credible alternative.

I don’t think they’ll ever understand the deep ocean of real anger people who lost loved ones while they partied feel over this. It’s like a parking ticket to them. To thousands of bereaved people it’s the worst time of their life. The arrogance is staggering.

Feeling similar disappointment to Brexit and the 2016 results in the morning. Must keep going. Believe in the greater good and hopefully time won't run out. What else is there to do? Time to recalibrate and fix what is in my hands not the lives of others.

Seriously, this is something else. It will soon be possible to be a graduate on minimum wage in the UK and face a 37% marginal tax rate (20% income tax, 8% NI, plus 9% uni fees repayment). Throw in auto-enrolment at 5% and 6% loan repay for postgrads and it's 48%
