The smartest people I know regularly say 'I was wrong about that.' The dumbest people I know never change their minds about anything.

People think training 25+ hours a week for Ironman means I follow some ultra-strict, monk-like nutrition plan. And I kind of do… It’s strategic. It’s dialed in. But also… There’s ice cream. Lots of it. Not every day. Not without purpose. But enough to remind me: Joy is

These critiques miss an essential point: much of everyday life involves 'low effort and fast dopamine behaviors' - seeing a partner's face, chit-chat, etc. The fact that they are 'low effort and fast' doesn't make them bad - for that we need other criteria of value. So it's not

This kind of thinking is incredibly harmful. To suggest it's "that simple" is a slap in the face to anyone who has ever struggled. And it ignores virtually all established science on behavioral change, addiction, psychology, and the social determinants of health. It creates

Today’s dopamine temptation bundle - 5 hours on the bike followed by a burrito and coke. Pairing these lets the hedonic value of the meal ‘rub off ‘ on the hard ride, making it more appealing. Bonus- burritos are scientifically proven to be the best recovery meal…

"Eat like a caveman' is a paleofantasy that fundamentally misunderstands the recent and rapid acceleration of human evolution. Human evolution never hit pause. In the last 40,000 years, especially since farming took off, adaptive change sped up by as much as 100x. New foods,

"The peril of preconceived narratives" was just published in Cell Metabolism with Valerie L. Darcey, PhD, MS, RD in response to the fall out from our recent study that failed to show a significant brain dopamine response to ultra-processed milkshakes similar to highly addictive drugs. Free for the

I'll just add it's more than a bit ironic for critics of this study to question whether it reflects real-world conditions and then cite their own studies, whose results are due almost entirely to their artificial feeding schedules (IOW are artifacts).

No fad diet. No extreme restriction of food groups. No calorie counting. No alternative dietary guidelines. No primal or ancestral cookbooks required. Just minimally-processed foods following dietary guidelines.

If your goal is increasing dopamine, you could just have your partner kick you in the testicles at random times & at varying intensities. That's the Variable-Interval, Variable-Intensity Testicle Protocol and unlike most other 'protocols' is based on real science. Point is,
