Joburg's Mayor and MD Joburg Water to appear this Friday in front of Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Water and Sanitation. On Friday, 19 September at 09:00, the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Cllr Dada Morero, and the MD of Johannesburg Water will appear before

I was not impressed with Mayor Dada Morero’s responses in committee today. Full session linked in comments so you can judge for yourself. My view: Not enough resources are being committed to address the crisis. Worse water outages are coming as summer heat and demand rise.

Earlier today I joined Cllr Cllr Kyle Jacobs at the Brixton Reservoir & Tower. Brixton has faced a growing water challenge for the past month — and now high-lying areas are running dry. 🎥👇 (1/5)

🚨 Johannesburg Water is being drained dry by the City's failing finances, leaving the utility without the R4 billion it’s owed. The DA calls for phased ring-fencing to protect cash, pay suppliers on time, and get critical water infrastructure on track. da.org.za/2025/11/da-exp…

In 2026 I’m planning to post daily: • What I’m doing in Parliament on Water & Sanitation • Simple explainers (NRW, Blue/Green Drop, Water availability) • How water works in different places • Constituency work in Katlehong If there’s a South African water topic you want

Non-Revenue Water (NRW) is water that’s produced and pumped into the network, but never paid for - due to leaks, bursts, faulty meters, and illegal connections. High NRW means less reliable supply, more outages, and higher costs. What else would you lie to know about NRW?

Rand Water’s Eikenhof maintenance (6–8 Jan) is understandably making Joburg anxious. But planned maintenance is how you prevent bigger failures in bulk systems. Expect: reduced supply, reservoirs dropping in some areas, and recovery taking days - not hours. (1/5)

Non-revenue water (NRW) shows how much treated water municipalities never earn income from - because of leaks, theft, metering failures and unbilled use. Here’s how South Africa’s major metros compare against the national target of <25%. The differences are not small - and they

I asked DWS what each metro has spent on water tanker services and tanker vehicles (past 3 financial years + since 1 April 2025). Their reply: DWS doesn’t provide tankers on behalf of municipalities. That’s not what I asked. Residents deserve a transparent metro-by-metro tanker

Gauteng’s water demand is at a record high. This isn’t a “someday” problem - it’s the kind of trend that turns a hot week or a small fault into real outages. Start with the combined chart 👇 #RandWater #Gauteng (1/7)

Minister Majodina has now approved additional water abstraction for Rand Water after the DA called for this action on 11 Feb. This will help build buffers while the Vaal Dam is over capacity and should ease outages, especially for high-lying areas and end-of-line suburbs. But
