🎖️ #Gurkha #VictoriaCross – Agansing Rai. In June 1944 , his company was ordered to retake two positions from the Japanese in Burma. Agansing Rai led three charges through the hail of enemy fire, taking each position and killing ten enemy soldiers in the process.

Rory Sutherland hits the nail on the head as to why millions of households are being squeezed both financially and in terms of their own leisure time - and how that has wider ramifications for the whole economy.

Some welfare reform can be immediate - like removing warped incentives. DWP assessors paid are £80 for every extra sickness benefit claim they approve. The only way to speed up (or 'curtail') is to recommend the full award. Interview over: next case! The success rate is now

Reeves is strengthened, not weakened, by today’s gilt market mini freak-out. It’s a lament for her authority, a reaction to the chances of her going - and the fact that any likely replacement would be less fiscally credible.

Unfortunately for people who want to spend taxpayers' money willy nilly, the bond markets disagree. So if she resigns or gets sacked, we will be spending more money on interest payments and less on hospitals and welfare. The country needs economic competence not personality.

Key point in Dan’s brilliant take down of fantasies of left on tax. Equivalent fantasy on right is huge painless spending cuts. We can have bigger state and more tax on average earners. We can have smaller state and real cuts in public services/benefits. Thats it. The choice

Remember that "peaceful" protest by "locals" outside the Bell Hotel, Epping last week? Well it wasn't as peaceful as onsite reporters Jaymey McIvor and Adam Brooks would have you believe. Here's footage of those "locals" visciously assaulting an anti-fascist counter prostester.

One of the many joys of becoming a Dad again aged 60 is that I get to dust off my old board games, in this case a 1967 edition of Ariel's Par Golf. Lost a keenly fought match play to my 7 year-old by 2 up!

Continuing my revisit to boyhood board games with my 7-year old I give you "Penalty", circa 1966 by Pepys Games. The observant among you will notice the claim "the world famous football game" was made before the advent of the Advertising Standards Authority. Kick-off 4PM Monday!

Tonight's offering from my treasure trove of childhood games is a circa 1968 Spears's "James Bond 007 Game". One of my Dad's favourites, >50 years on I remember him roaring with laughter chasing secret documents. Discontinued many years ago there are some solid versions on eBay.

"The only opportunities ever for extremists in Britain, come when governments fail to address a legitimate problem." Farage and Reform are not "getting into bed" with the far-right but are offering an answer to "legitimate concerns", says The Times's Fraser Nelson.
