Popped into ⁦Imperial War Museums⁩ to visit Waikaha again, the LRDG Chevrolet 30 cwt truck discovered in the Egyptian desert in 1980. Believed to be from one of the Long Range Desert Group's original New Zealand patrol vehicles c.1941.

Problem solved by a cup of tea! “I've got lunatics laughing at me from the woods. My original plan has been scuppered now that the jeeps haven't arrived. My communications are completely broken down. Do you really believe any of that can be helped by a cup of tea?” #OTD #Arnhem

The Farm plateau with evidence of an old stone ruin and water well. Visited here in July and the undergrowth was impenetrable. Today this part of Gallipoli looks like a battle zone

CAPTAIN LIONEL QUERIPEL VC “He was one of the finest men I was privileged to serve under. His first thought was for his men. One hears of VC’s being given for impulsive bravery, but not Queripel.  Anyone who knew him would have expected him to do just what he did.” #Arnhem80 #OTD

The old New Zealand 🇳🇿 positions at The Apex, once impenetrable due to overgrowth, now clear to explore. Remains of trenches and dugouts crisscross the landscape, and the usual detritus of war litters the ground ⁦Gallipoli Association⁩ ⁦Warren Smith⁩ ⁦Dr John B Winterburn⁩ #Anzac

Talking to a work colleague in London today who casually mentioned that her grandfather was in SOE during WW2. She asked “Would you like to see his wartime photo album and documents?” You won’t be surprised by my reply Dr Helen Fry | WWII Historian SOE_Expeditions SOE Spirit of Resistance 🇬🇧🗡️🏴‍☠️🪂🇺🇦🇮🇱 SOE History

One of my favourite London war memorials is the Royal Artillery Memorial at Hyde Park Corner. Designed by Charles Sargeant Jagger who was a Worcestershire Regiment officer with service at Gallipoli and the Western Front. Wounded three times, he was awarded the MC for gallantry.
