Bit of a different day yesterday, volunteering alongside the outstanding clinicians of SCAS BASICS working alongside and providing assistance to SCAS crews and Hampshire and isle of white air ambulance. Great to work alongside these great volunteers.

The chain of survival is vital and it works, recent incident, witnessed collapse in public, immediate CPR and then AED attached 2 shocks and ROSC achieved before I got there and ROSC sustained. And signs it’s going to be a complete recovery, the public were the life savers here.

Avoiding unrecognised oesophageal intubation The Russ Carney of America & Difficult Airway Society (DAS) have agreed to drop ‘no trace wrong place’ The message now is that we need to exclude oesophageal intubation by identifying SUSTAINED EXHALED CO2 This requires 4 elements -CO2 rises & falls with respiration

Don’t train until you get it right, train until you can’t get it wrong. Proud to say that WAST still support intubation but it’s a vital skill that needs regular practice. I feel it’s a skill that should still be a core paramedic skill. It’s still gold standard airway maintenance
