this is a good discussion on Catholic Social Teaching and AI. It’s early innings … but becoming clear that the primary counter-narrative to tech dominance is going to come from the Catholic Church. Now we await encyclical from Pope Leo XIV

Before building a city on Mars, why not in Antarctica? 1000x more accessible & hospitable to life, rich with mineral resources, coal, infinite water. Even unfrozen surface lakes. Or maybe there’s a reason humans haven’t colonized Antarctica. And if so, why then Mars?

watching the epic WW2 miniseries “The Winds of War” from the 80s. Not streaming anywhere so got DVDs from library (yes, this is still possible) It’s great, a lost TV treasure.

why aren’t Mars enthusiasts lining up to settle McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica? A fraction of the cost of Mars, and infinitely more hospitable to humans. Or is it just less cool sounding?

“The Winds of War” is just fantastic. 15 hours! A complete tour of WW2 via the lives of one Navy family. Incredible sets, cast of thousands.

800y after Mars blacks out power on Earth, the former Washington DC is called the “Belt Wall.” Those left behind live underground in the ancient Metro, waiting for Mars to send a transport ship. As detailed in “The Last of the Martians” trilogy. Bk 3 OVERFLOOD releases in Oct.

“Antarctica” by Gabrielle Walker (2013) a great overview of the continent, which begs the question: if we don’t want to settle Antarctica—and there are many reasons why not to!— then why the obsession with going to Mars?
