Work by Simar Singh has demonstrated that poor performance on the WCST (an indicator of poor cognitive flexibility) by people with bulimia nervosa may be associated with binge eating episodes. However, it was not associated with ED other symptoms. #ICED2024

A fantastic talk by the incredible sookning from Relate Malaysia on the role of culture in #eatingdisorders. As she says it’s complicated… So impressed by the work Dr. Chua is doing to bring screening prevention, and treatment of EDs to Malaysia #ICED2024

I had such a great time as a panel member at #ICED2024. We discussed neurocognitive assessment, the need for standardisation in the field, and the pitfalls of test batteries.

Eating disorder prevention work needs to start BEFORE adolescence. Children are exposed to harmful and exclusionary messaging about food and bodies from a very young age. Outstanding talk DrLesleyW ✨ #ICED2024

Important though perhaps not surprising finding from Amanda Raffoul: Discrimination is associated with ED symptoms among Middle Eastern American college students. Almost a third (29.9%) of the sample (N = 9000+) reported disordered eating symptoms. #ICED2024

fMRI research by @phkung and colleagues found that the habenula (a region of the brain) may play a key role in the processing of negative thoughts. This work is now being extended to people experiencing binge eating. #ICED2024

Results from our 2nd annual Body Kind Youth Survey, launched today, continue to show the concerning status of body image in young people aged 12-18 in Australia. Over half say they are dissatisfied with how their body looks & for many, body image has a daily impact on their lives

Identity (sense of self) has long been linked to anorexia - but with little research evidence. Led by Scarlett Croce, this paper shows how identity functioning improves across illness & recovery stages - suggesting that improving identity may be important for achieving recovery.

I'm peer-reviewing a paper and slowly starting to wonder, am I Reviewer 2? 😬 I'm trying to be kind and constructive, but it is very challenging when there are multiple issues with a manuscript!

We are conducting a qualitative study exploring the management of ARFID in clinical practice. We are looking for staff in eating disorder services with experience treating ARFID clients, who would be happy to participate in a 30-min interview. See: tinyurl.com/helparfid
