The Pacific Ocean! Our starting point before we head east. Currently stopping for a refuel and chart check before starting some Californian hills.

Day 1: tough with relentless climbing in the heat, but rewarded with an epic sunset as we coasted in to Ocotillo. Met some lovely people, drank a lot of #Gatorade & now off to sleep in the desert. 102 miles down, 2898 to go! Tomorrow is one of our hardest legs- long, hot, empty.

Today has started early; we're heading out at 0400 to beat the shortly rising sun. Overnight was a steady 35deg and strong wind, sleeping under the stars. We stayed near a services so we could fuel up straight away- a big day ahead of 120 miles across sand dunes and desert

Crossed most of the dunes, with the final 1000' climb to go. We're mid way through today's distance. Spectacular scenery, punishingly hot. We've got another 60 miles to run but we're well on track.
