My B&W picture today is the sawmill. There are still many of these small portable sawmills in this area. Many people still cut down their own trees and mill them into various sized pieces of lumber.

Some of the summer fishing cabins at Green Point. Lobsters are fished by the folks staying in this area for the summer.

For comparative purposes just have a look at the pick up truck at the front of this fishing boat. When in the water these boats all look much smaller than they really are.

These fishing boats are really much larger than they look when they are in the water.

What a nice place to just sit and think about something nice for a change. There is simply too much bad news everywhere these days.

Jersey walking the Mrs. down the Old Mail Trail. She really likes coming here for her walks every morning and has the whole place to herself. Come on mom, hurry up will ya!

The Marine Centre here is the summer campus for Marine Biology students from Memorial University. They spend their summers here diving in Bonne Bay and studying the marine life in this area. Not a bad gig in the summer for these young people.

Another cold and overcast morning in the harbour. We have not had much luck with the weather since last weekend, and our rainy weather seems like it will continue all this week.

Hey dad, what do you mean not to make a mess on the couch with my bones? I am just trying to enjoy my breakfast here….

When I was a boy dad could take the family of 5 to McDonalds for dinner for $1.35. Now it costs over $70 dollars. Last year Tim Hortons paid their CEO $150 million. Do you suppose these fast food places are charging us too much? Corporate greed is destroying the country.

Who remembers Richard Cunningham’s friend “The Fonz”? I think he is having just a little too much fun fishing these days.

My B&W photo is this Victorian house in Woody Point. The town has a heritage designation for all the old buildings and homes that have been restored there. The Widows Walk on the roof is where wives looked out the harbour to see if their husband’s boat was coming in the harbour.

The total collapse of the fishery in rural Newfoundland. With deteriorating fishing communities and family farms I wonder who is going to feed all of us in years to come.

An old hand made wooden lobster trap. These are rarely seen now as most fishers today use factory made metal traps. Soon we will never see them.

The road to Tickle Point. There are many of these wonderful old roads here that are great places to walk the dog as they are rarely ever used by anyone.

Looking across the salt marshes at Tickle Point at some fishing sheds and summer cabins there. The folks that fish from here are lobster fishers.

Jersey walking Marlene down the road to Tickle Point, a tiny summer fishing village just north of here and near St. Paul’s Inlet. Years ago this area was the ocean floor.

Funny how all the seagulls return as soon as the fishing season begins again. I wonder where they all hide out in the winter time.
