Despite pressure from UCL-UCU Stop the Destruction of Higher Education leadership, we insisted on our solidarity with Ukraine motion keeping its condemnation of the antisemitic trope in UCU congress’s motion 5. This article by Ben Gidley & @RybakJa explains why that is so important x.com/bengidley/stat…
UCL-UCU Stop the Destruction of Higher Education Tim Beasley-Murray Michał Murawski (Goldzamt) 🇺🇦🇵🇸 Please remove this tweet. Tweeting a screenshot that includes a colleague’s name and Twitter handle and accusing them of abuse is itself an invitation to abuse. Your tweet also verges on slander itself because our colleague did not name anyone in his tweet
Thank you SSEES strikes & supports Ukraine 🇺🇦 #Solidarity ! I shrugged my shoulders when I first saw this Tweet but I find it increasingly shocking that my branch UCL-UCU Stop the Destruction of Higher Education, which I have stated that I would like to re-join, is engaging in practices that seem to border on slander and victimisation ❤️🩹
UCL-UCU Stop the Destruction of Higher Education a thread on a deeply unsatisfactory situation. Thanks to Françoïs Guesnet & others, many w expertise in the field, an EGM was called that passed with an overwhelming majority a motion condemning congress’s motion 5 1/
UCL-UCU Stop the Destruction of Higher Education Tim Beasley-Murray Michał Murawski (Goldzamt) 🇺🇦🇵🇸 This is particularly egregious behaviour when you have blocked somebody so they can’t see what you are doing to them.
Several hours later and we have had no response to this from UCL-UCU Stop the Destruction of Higher Education despite them being active on Twitter today. We repeat: please remove this tweet which victimises and slanders our colleague.
Dear UCL-UCU Stop the Destruction of Higher Education you have had time to do various bits of tweeting today. Please respond to your colleagues’ objections to your treatment of our colleague. I would expect you to apologise and certainly to delete your personally abusive message.
When Victoria Amelina spoke at UCL School of Slavonic & East European Studies in April, she'd just written a poem about her experiences talking to women and documenting Russian war crimes in de-occupied areas. Here's a video of her reading the original; my translation is below. So painful to listen to this now. 1/2
Please read this list of Victoria Amelina's works translated into English. What a talent we have lost. Thank you Olga Tokariuk for compiling this.
My tribute to the gentle, fierce, empathetic brilliance of Victoria Amelina in The Guardian. A text I really, really wish I had never had to write. theguardian.com/world/2023/jul…
‘For too long, the Russian imperial gaze was internalised by Western academia’. Vitaly Chernetsky’s powerful lecture at UCL School of Slavonic & East European Studies. Key messages: leave comfort zone, be proactive in efforts to unlearn, and then relearn. And, most importantly, practice solidarity. Vitaly Chernetsky
