Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal is a DNF on her marathon debut in the Hamburg Marathon. Her last split was 1:23:25 at 25km which was still under Ingrid Kristiansen’s Norwegian record pace.

I’m actually glad the pacemakers fell away early in the men’s race. I want to see this field race rather than time trial then crash and burn.

This is a hard and lonely second half for Sifan Hassan. Her last two 5km splits: 17:03, 17:32. However, she does have 1:47 gap on the fourth-placer.

China qualifying for the men’s 4x400m is one of the most unexpected results of the evening! Only one of their quarter (Liang Baotang at 45.54) has a sub-46 second lifetime best for the individual 400m.

Shall I rehash my tweet about the fact that Merlene Ottey has raced both 1968 Olympic medalist Lyudmila Maslakova and 2025 world indoor champion Mujinga Kambundji? Yes, I shall.

The great thing is that three members of that victorious British 4x100m are aged 22 or younger. Very promising for the future!

Belgium clock 2:58.19 to win silver in the 4x400m without a single Borlee in their team! Their third fastest time ever as a nation.

Norway’s time of 3:25.35 in the 4x400m was significant. Not only was it a Norwegian record, it was also a Nordic record. The previous mark was 3:25.7 set by Finland 51 years ago at the 1974 European Champs!

Big run from Elise Thorner who goes to third on the British all-time list in the 3000m steeplechase with 9:17.57 in Los Angeles! Also just inside the qualifying standard for Tokyo.

I was today years ago when I discovered that a) Vigilijus Alekna has a medal from the Francophone Games and b) Lithuania (!) is seemingly eligible for the Francophone Games?!

Get yourself a friend like William! One of Sander Skotheim’s best friends drove 22 hours to deliver his poles from his training base in Norway to Gotzis!

Success Eduan also runs in the 200m in Bergen. Looking forward to seeing ever individually after her heroics in Guangzhou!
