Knowing how to coach is easy; there are plenty of people who can talk great coaching. But to get to a level where you are living it day in and day out takes a genuine desire to pursue excellence, self-awareness

Players who aren't easy to coach may not be ‘uncoachable'…perhaps they just need to be coached in a different way Ask them: "What can I do to help you progress your game?" Take their viewpoint seriously. Enjoy negotiating with them. Co-create solutions. Stretch where you can..

So how do you #coach "choice?" Start with TELLING less - and ASKING more! Instead of telling #athletes the same things over and over and over - try ASKING them - "what do you think would happen if you..." and "what's a better way of doing that....". Take your #coaching from

Great clip Doug Lemov, thanks for posting. Some great nuances with thoughtful & considered dialogue from Katie to fully engage all participants in the learning process. I'll definitely give this a go with my coaching environments.

Football...like all sports...is heavily influence biopsychosocially... Bio = body/brain Psycho = mind Social = world The behaviours and actions of players are a keen interaction between their biology, psychology, and social influences...they are complex…they are dynamic!

"My athletes..." I used to use this to describe the athletes I worked with. From my perspective, this is a clue to show you how much your identity/success is tied to what you do. Replace it with "The athletes I support..." Language matters - profoundly.

Why wouldn’t you want children to co-create, collaborate and be an active ingredient in your practice? Kids are amateur right (actually maybe we are all amateur, we don’t live long enough to be anything else!!!), and as an amateur you see more options. Perhaps if you’re more

I've been a coach since 2007. I've been creating content about coaching since 2011. Over the years, I've created a lot of different things, so I thought it might be helpful to pull them all together into one place. I hope you find some of these useful:

People often think the defining factor for coaches is technical expertise…how much they know about the thing. A level of technical competence is required, but actually what’s significantly more important is their human interaction - the way they engage, encourage & motivate.

If you have constructive feedback, it’s not rude to speak up. It's unkind to stay silent. Honesty is the highest form of flattery. It signals that you respect their ability to handle the truth. Don't deprive people of the opportunity to learn. Offering ideas is an act of care.

Coaches…So you want to be a world class coach? If so, you would be well-served to become an incredible teacher and well-informed about human learning. To help you do this, then you’d do well to consider these approaches to teaching, learning, and coaching… -Rosenshine’s
