Another bucket list fish ticked off! The protected Ballina Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus ballinae) lives on the deep water reefs surrounding Balls Pyramids, Lord Howe Island. Rather rare and elusive, I finally managed to see one! 😎

These #cisco are hungry! With declining native zooplankton in the #greatlakes (thanks mussels!) these #lakemichigan cisco have adapted to eat invasive zooplankton and small fish like these #alewives. Cisco were once almost totally gone from Lake MI -amazing to see them rebounding

Wait - aren't zebra mussel the big problem? Nope - it's #quagga mussels that are wreaking the most havoc in the #greatlakes these days. There are quadrillions (that's 15 zeros!) of quaggas down there, and they're changing how our lakes work. #invasive #quaggamussels #freshwater

Portrait mode. The face of the common (weedy) #seadragon, Phyllopteryx taeniolatus, doesn’t need any makeup as it has some spectacular natural patterns and coloration. Check out that hairstyle! No wonder it is a favorite species of the #greatsouthernreef

A beautifully photogenic pteropod (sea butterfly). Hard to wrap your head around the fact that this is technically a type of snail.

The Smalltooth sand tiger is the perfect example of how appearances are deceiving. At first sight, a 4-foot-tall animal full of sharp teeth. The reality is that all they transmit is peace and a feeling of being in front of a prehistoric animal. @felipe_ravina
