Students on the OxNet programme attended the inaugural Heritage 360 Conference @ Durham Castle, exploring heritage through climate change, archaeology, photography, & architecture. They also toured the Norman Chapel & reflected on their learning in the castle quadrangle.

The PE department made the most of the sunshine this week with the Southmoor Fitness Games! Students competed in team workouts featuring cardio, functional fitness, and bodyweight challenges—a fun intro to competitive fitness we hope to build on soon.

Last weekend, our The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award students took on their silver practice expedition—honing skills like map-reading, camping, and navigation. With great weather and team spirit, they made memories to last a lifetime. #dukeofedinburgh

Students got creative for Easter with festive activities across subjects! In Miss Richardson’s History class, KS3 students crafted egg versions of historical figures—highlights included ‘Albert Eggstein’ and ‘Winston Churchshell.’ Congrats to all who took part! 🥚✨

Over Easter, our social sciences group travelled to New York the so-called “crossroads of the world” for an educational tour that brought our studies to life. From iconic landmarks to everyday street scenes, the city offered lessons in history, politics, sociology, & culture!

Just before the Easter holidays, students took part in our four day MFL visit to France. We visited the Canadian War Memorial in Normandy, stayed in a Château, climbed the Eiffel Tower, cruised the Seine, walked the Champs-Elysées & even took part in a crepe making class! #MFL🇫🇷

We are thrilled to share the success of our Raising & Giving Week, all in support of the amazing work of Red Sky Foundation. Throughout the week, our school community came together with Raffles, Stalls, car washing and even a talent show, raising over £1400 for the charity!

We were visited by the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust Healthy Heads service in our area. The Healthy Heads Team is a school based mental health service that aims to support children, young people & families who are struggling with mental health. The Year 10/11 Rugby team played their last competitive game of the season where they ran out 35-15 winners against local rival St Aidens. Captain on the night was Will F who led the sides impressive display. Well done to everyone involved, we look forward ti next season!

The Wear Here for You team visited this week, also accompanied by representatives from Sunderland Community Action Group, Kooth & Humankind. Our visitors hosted workshops for Yr 7 pupils on mental health & anti-bullying as well as boosting team-working skills & confidence.

The NHS Healthy Heads Team visited school last week to host a workshop aimed at supporting students who may be experiencing stress in the lead-up to their exams. Drop-in sessions will continue to run every Wed lunchtime for KS4 students in Years 11 & 13, up until 21st May 2025.

This week’s Aspire Theme marked the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. 🇬🇧 Students learned about its significance, explored Southmoor’s wartime history, joined a VE Mail project with a 103-year-old veteran, and celebrated with music, exhibitions, and a street party vibe! #VEDay80

Pathways KS3 pupils took to the streets this week on a mini Street Art tour, exploring local graffiti by artists like Frank Styles 🎨 They learned about the history, impact, and techniques of Street Art to inspire their own work for the Arts Award. #StreetArt #FrankStyles

The Yr 8 rugby team played their final league fixtures of the 24/25 season On the night we were narrowly defeated 15-10 by St Aidans and drew 10-10 with SHV. Special mention needs to go to Jayden who won the T.R.E.Ds award for outstanding performance all season. well done lads.
